Recall that in 2018, Davido and Mayorkun teamed up with Spyro on the remix version of his song titled “Funke.” The track quickly gained massive attention, becoming a household anthem and making waves across social media platforms and the Nigerian music scene.

During a recent interview on HipTv, the “Who’s Your Guy” crooner spoke candidly about the aftermath of the collaboration and how it felt to be sidelined after what he thought would be his big breakthrough in the industry.

“I had a song back then, and I was blessed to feature both Davido and Mayorkun on it. At the time, I genuinely believed my life and career were about to change for good. When the song dropped, it became a hit. It was everywhere — on TV, radio, social media, parties — everywhere you turned, you’d hear ‘Funke,’” he recounted.

However, Spyro explained that shortly after the initial hype, things took a turn for the worse. “It all came crashing down faster than I expected. The same people I was vibing with, the same people I thought were my industry brothers, suddenly stopped picking my calls and reaching out. I would try to connect, but it was as if I never existed,” he revealed.

He went on to share the emotional and mental struggles he faced during that period. “There were days I would sit on the staircase in my house, my head in my hands, crying endlessly. I had my parents at home depending on me, bills piling up, and nothing seemed to be working out. I questioned myself and my purpose so many times,” Spyro added.

The singer concluded by encouraging other upcoming artists not to rely solely on collaborations with big names, stressing the importance of building one’s brand and remaining consistent even when faced with rejection and setbacks in the music industry.
