Renowned Nigerian politician and former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has continued to receive widespread praise and commendation from citizens and well-wishers across the country following his thoughtful gesture towards viral teenager, Yusuf Alabi, who was recently freed from detention.
Gistreel earlier reported the release of Yusuf Alabi from the Kirikiri Correctional Facility, a development that ignited joy and excitement among Nigerians both online and offline. The teenager had trended after facing unjust detention, and many prominent voices had called for his release.

The good news of his freedom was first announced by notable human rights lawyer and activist, Inibehe Effiong, via a post on his official Facebook page. Effiong disclosed that beyond Yusuf's release, the Nigerian police had been ordered by a competent court to pay a sum of N100 million as compensation for the unlawful detention and to publicly tender an apology to Yusuf Alabi.
In a heartwarming development, Peter Obi, who has always positioned himself as an advocate for youth empowerment and justice, personally visited the young boy. Taking to his official handle on X (formerly Twitter), Obi shared the touching details of his meeting with Yusuf Alabi.

“Today, I had the opportunity to meet with Quadri Yusuf Alabi, the young boy whose story moved us all. After enduring unjust and illegal incarceration, he is finally free.
Despite all he has been through, his only dream is to return to school and complete his education — and I will make sure he gets it.
His determination is not just inspiring; it is a call to action, and I am committed to ensuring that he gets the education he desires and deserves.
As we strive to build a Nigeria where fairness, equity, and integrity prevail, we cannot afford to allow such acts of criminality and injustice to go unpunished,”
Obi wrote.
The post was met with thousands of positive reactions, with Nigerians praising the former Anambra State governor for showing genuine care, compassion, and leadership by example. Many described his action as the kind of political character the nation urgently needs.
The scholarship offer has further given hope to Yusuf Alabi, who has expressed his gratitude and eagerness to continue his education, vowing to make the best of the new opportunity granted to him by Peter Obi.
