Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the highly revered General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has opened up about his thoughts on longevity and why he has no desire to live beyond 100 years. According to the cleric, he has outrightly rejected prayers from well-wishers who asked God to extend his life beyond a century.

During a sermon, Pastor Adeboye recounted an experience with some of his followers who prayed for him to live to different ages. He noted that when they prayed for him to reach 80 years, he enthusiastically responded with a hearty “Amen.”

Similarly, when the prayers extended to 90 years, he also accepted them with gratitude. However, when someone prayed for him to live up to 100, his response took a different turn as he chose to remain silent.

Pastor Adeboye further explained that the prayer for him to live up to 120 years was met with strong disapproval. He questioned why God would want to keep him on earth for an additional 50 years after he had already spent seven decades. According to him, the world is full of challenges, and he does not see the need to remain in it for such an extended period.

The cleric humorously recalled another instance where a woman, filled with excitement, prayed for him to live up to 140 years. However, his reaction was even more emphatic as he outrightly rejected the idea, stressing that he had no desire to remain on earth for such a long time.

Sharing his thoughts, Pastor Adeboye said:

“When I was 70 years old, some children of mine began to pray for me. And they said, ‘Daddy, you will live to be 80,’ I said Amen. ‘You will live to be 90,’ I said Amen. They said, ‘You will live to be 100,’ I didn’t answer them.”

He continued: “And then one fellow got excited and said, ‘You will live to be 120,’ I said na lie! What will God say I have done wrong? I have been here for 70 years, and He will now keep me here for another 50 years? In this world?”

“Where today you have electricity, tomorrow you don’t have? But there was one lady who got really excited, and said, ‘You will live to be 140,’ I said no be me.”
