A devastating tragedy has rocked the online beauty community following the untimely death of 23-year-old Mexican influencer, Valeria Márquez, who was fatally shot while live-streaming on TikTok.
The harrowing incident took place on Tuesday inside the beauty salon where Márquez was employed, located in Zapopan, Jalisco. Local authorities have classified the attack as a potential case of feminicidio, a femicide, and an official investigation is currently underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the murder.
Valeria Márquez had built a significant following for her vibrant personality and engaging beauty and makeup tutorials. During the fatal livestream, she was seen interacting with her fans, responding to someone calling her name, while holding a stuffed toy as she appeared visibly uneasy.
She reportedly referenced a prior unsettling encounter with an individual who had visited her salon bearing an expensive gift during her absence. Shortly after expressing this discomfort, Márquez muted the livestream, and gunshots were heard off-camera, marking the tragic turn of events.
The livestream abruptly ended as an unidentified person appeared on screen, picking up Márquez’s phone with their face partially visible before the feed was cut. So far, law enforcement officials have not identified any suspects, nor have any arrests been made in connection with the case.
This brutal killing has reignited widespread outrage and brought renewed attention to the pervasive issue of violence against women in Mexico, where human rights organizations report that approximately 10 women are murdered every day.
