President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has finally addressed the wave of mockery and criticism trailing his recent viral blunder where he mispronounced the word “kudos” as “kundusi.”
In a trending video shared on social media on Tuesday, MC Oluomo defended himself against online trolls and critics, stating that although he may not be highly educated or fluent in the English language, he has successfully raised well-educated children who are now thriving and holding dual citizenship in prestigious countries like the United States and the United Kingdom.
Speaking in Yoruba and partly in English during the video, he said, “If you and my children come out to express yourself, I’m not sure you can beat them. They are highly educated. I trained my children properly with money. My children are citizens of America and the United Kingdom. I worked hard to get there.”
Addressing the specific incident of his mispronunciation, MC Oluomo said, “‘Kundusi!’ What happened? Grammars are too much. Grammar won’t finish Nigeria. I might not understand the English language, but I understand Yoruba.”
He went further to fire back at those ridiculing him, asking what tangible achievements his critics have attained despite their English proficiency. He said, “So they are mocking me for saying ‘kundusi’, is my child not Qudus? You that you are educated, what did you achieve?”
The NURTW president also reflected on his journey from a humble background to his current position as a leader in one of Nigeria’s most influential unions. He recounted his gradual rise through the ranks, saying, “I started as a bus conductor, then moved up to unit treasurer, unit chairman, branch deputy treasurer, branch treasurer, branch chairman, state chairman, and now national president. I worked hard to get here. I am not educated.”
Interestingly, this is not the first time MC Oluomo’s children have publicly defended him against online trolls. Back in 2022, his son, King West, took to Instagram to slam critics after someone referred to his father as a lout. In a strongly-worded post, he wrote, “If my father was your father, you’d never lack love, care, or protection. Get a father like mine.”
MC Oluomo’s latest reaction has since stirred mixed responses on social media, with some hailing him for standing his ground and highlighting the importance of family success over public validation, while others continue to poke fun at the now-famous ‘kundusi’ blunder.
