Emeka Ugwuonye, the legal counsel representing Nollywood actress May Edochie, has shared a fresh update regarding her ongoing divorce proceedings with her estranged husband, popular actor Yul Edochie.
The couple’s marital issues have been a subject of public discussion since August 2023, when May officially filed for divorce, accusing Yul of adultery. The filing also included a demand for N100 million in damages from Judy Austin, the woman identified as Yul’s second wife, following the public announcement of their relationship and the birth of their child in April 2022.

In a detailed Facebook post, Emeka Ugwuonye confirmed that the case has made significant progress. According to him, both parties have reached a mutual understanding on several important aspects of the separation, although some issues are still pending resolution.
He noted that a working arrangement is already in place, helping to manage the ongoing legal and familial dynamics between the two. However, the matter concerning the damages sought against Judy Austin remains unresolved, particularly as it pertains to her alleged role in the breakdown of the marriage.
Ugwuonye also revealed an important personal decision by May. He stated that she has no intention of remarrying and remains focused on her healing and peace of mind rather than rushing the divorce process. “May is not in a hurry to remarry, and she’s at peace with the pace of the legal proceedings,” the lawyer added.
The revelation has sparked fresh discussions online, with fans expressing support for May while many await the conclusion of the high-profile divorce case that has captivated the Nigerian entertainment space since its inception.
