The Nigeria Police Force has officially confirmed the successful extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, also known as Killaboi, from Doha, Qatar, to Nigeria to face charges for the alleged murder of Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, a 21-year-old first-class student from Lead City University.

The extradition took place after months of extensive international cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, and Qatari judicial authorities, ensuring that justice could be served in the case. Killaboi, who was wanted by the Nigerian police since October 2023, arrived in Nigeria early on Saturday, April 19, 2025, and is now expected to stand trial for the murder of the young student.

In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was disclosed that the extradition process was officially initiated after the family of the deceased submitted a petition through their lawyers on September 29, 2024. The case was subsequently assigned to INTERPOL NCB Abuja, which commenced a thorough investigation into the matter.

According to the police investigation, Nnayereugo allegedly murdered Onuwabhagbe on July 13, 2023, at his residence in Oral Estate, Ajah, Lagos. Following the tragic incident, Nnayereugo fled Nigeria and posted an online video that appeared to confess to the crime. However, the authorities later concluded that the video was a deliberate attempt to mislead investigators, as he had not fully confessed to the crime in the video.

An INTERPOL Red Notice was issued for his arrest, which led to Nnayereugo being apprehended in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on October 20, 2023. He was arrested under a false identity, "Kanu Princeton Samuel," but managed to escape custody during a prison break that occurred on November 26, 2023. Following his escape, law enforcement agencies tracked Nnayereugo across several regions, including West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East, where he used multiple forged identities to evade capture.

It wasn’t until January 24, 2025, that he resurfaced in Doha, Qatar, under the alias "Toure Abdoulaye" and used a fake Guinean passport to secure employment. However, his true identity was eventually uncovered in February 2025, thanks to the sharing of biometric data between INTERPOL NCB Abuja and INTERPOL NCB Doha. This breakthrough led to his capture by Qatari authorities. After receiving an official request for his extradition from Nigeria’s Ministry of Justice, the Qatari authorities gave their approval for his return to Nigeria.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the collaborative efforts between the Nigerian Police Force, INTERPOL, and the Qatari authorities, expressing his gratitude to the Qatari government, INTERPOL NCB Doha, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar for their essential support in facilitating Killaboi’s extradition. He assured the Nigerian public that the suspect would face prosecution in Nigeria and reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring justice is served and public safety upheld in the country.
