The issue ignited amid the ongoing rivalry between the two Afrobeats stars, which has prompted heated debates online among their fanbases. Fans of both Wizkid and Davido have been passionately defending their respective favorites, with tensions often spilling onto social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter).

The trouble started when an X user accused Iyanya of distancing himself from Wizkid, with whom he had previously collaborated on the hit song “Sexy Mama,” and aligning himself with Davido, the head of DMW, after publicly supporting the latter’s music. In a bid to clear the air, Iyanya responded by emphasizing his neutrality and the fact that he supports all Nigerian artists, naming several albums he regularly listens to, including those by Wizkid, Davido, and other top musicians.

However, in his attempt to calm the storm, Iyanya made a crucial mistake. While referencing Wizkid’s tribute album, Morayo—named after Wizkid's late mother—he accidentally spelled the album name as “Maroya.” His statement read, “I played Wizkid’s Made in Lagos and Maroya, the same way I play every other artiste’s songs.” The typo quickly caught the attention of fans who wasted no time in mocking Iyanya for the blunder.

The error quickly sparked a flood of reactions on social media, with many users ridiculing Iyanya for the mistake. Some fans even insinuated that the misspelling was intentional, accusing him of disrespecting Wizkid’s late mother. User @Gwan_123 humorously wrote, “Maroya 😭😂😂😂😂 you go just know say na on mute e play am.” Another user, @Rozaycharm_, joked, “Shey you know say you don unknowingly drop new banter material for 30Bingos?😭.” @The_Good wasn’t amused either, stating, “Imagine you turn Big Wiz late lovely mum name Morayo to Maroya… you clearly know what you are doing, God go punish you.”

Further adding to the laughter, @Dizmarviz quipped, “Maroya the greatest I ever made. Thank you @Iyanya, you just gave us new ingredients for this cooking… This week go long.” The internet quickly seized the opportunity to turn the misspelling into meme-worthy material, with many users mocking Iyanya's apparent slip-up.

After the storm erupted, Iyanya took to social media to address the issue. He quoted the original post and corrected the spelling error, properly naming the album as “Morayo.” Despite his attempt to amend the mistake, the backlash continued, with some fans still calling him out for the blunder and questioning his sincerity. The drama was far from over, with some fans even sarcastically making light of the situation. @Kellybonito_ commented, “No worry, we understand. Even me sef no dey remember that album name. The album too useless 🤣🤣.”

Other users were more forgiving, with @The_Good acknowledging the correction, “Thanks for the correction and coming back to your senses, we forgive you… no artists way go fuck with Wiz way we FC nor fit put for he place ❤️.” However, Iyanya’s mistake did little to quell the fan war that has raged on between the two music giants and their supporters.

In the midst of all the drama, Iyanya’s slip-up has only served to fuel the ongoing rivalry between Wizkid and Davido, intensifying the already heated tension between the two camps. Despite his efforts to clarify his position, Iyanya’s role in this saga has further complicated the dynamics of the rivalry, leaving fans divided and the feud unresolved.
