Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has emotionally opened up about a painful moment in her life that led her to seek professional help for the first time.
During a heartfelt conversation with media host Chude Jideonwo, the acclaimed actress revealed how deeply hurt she was when some women mocked her for not having a husband while she was running for public office.

It will be recalled that Funke Akindele was the Deputy Governorship candidate for Lagos State in the 2023 general elections under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Her political ambition, though applauded by many, also subjected her to intense public scrutiny and criticism.
According to the actress, one particular video she saw online left her in tears. “There was one video I watched where women were mocking me for not having a husband, and I want to do politics. I broke down and cried. I told myself I needed to speak to a therapist, and I felt better,” she shared.
Akindele admitted that despite knowing the benefits of therapy, she initially avoided it due to fear of being the subject of gossip. “Right from the scratch, I’ve always known that therapy was important, but never submitted to it because I didn’t want them to carry my gist. I kept acting strong while they were throwing everything at me,” she said.
The award-winning actress, known for record-breaking films like Omo Ghetto: The Saga and Battle on Buka Street, encouraged others not to bottle up their emotions. “I want to advise you out there that it is very important to speak up,” she said, urging people to seek help when overwhelmed.
