Social media influencer, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, has strongly criticized Nigerians who frequently compare actress Funke Akindele to American Actress Taraji P. Henson. In a recent tweet shared on Monday, Enioluwa expressed his frustration with this ongoing comparison, highlighting the need to recognize the individuality and uniqueness of Nigerian stars like Funke Akindele.
Enioluwa pointed out that there is no reason to continuously make comparisons between Nigerian icons and Western figures, arguing that doing so diminishes their accomplishments. He emphasized that Funke Akindele, who has proven to be an unstoppable force in the Nigerian entertainment industry with her record-breaking success at the box office, should not be seen as a "version" of anyone. In his tweet, he wrote: “I really don’t like seeing comments calling Aunty Funke the “Nigerian version of Taraji P. Henson.” As much as I love Taraji and admire her work, I don’t understand the constant need to compare our icons to Western figures.”
He continued by stressing that Funke Akindele has built her own legacy and should be celebrated for who she is. “Funke Akindele is The Funke Akindele—an unstoppable box office record breaker. She’s not a version of anyone but herself,” he added, reinforcing his stance on the matter. Enioluwa's message resonated with many of his followers, who agreed with his perspective on honoring Nigerian talents without the need for constant comparison to Western celebrities.
