A Nigerian man has expressed deep surprise and admiration after a dry cleaner returned the cash he discovered in his clothes during laundry, an act that has warmed the hearts of many online.
Taking to his social media page, the man narrated how he had recently gone to retrieve his clothes from a local laundry service near his home when he was handed a sum of money that had been found in one of his garments.
According to his account, the laundryman had discovered N1,000 inside his jeans and, rather than pocketing it, chose to hold onto it and return it to the rightful owner.
The man, touched by this level of integrity, shared the conversation he had with the dry cleaner. When he asked why he had chosen to return the money, the cleaner reportedly replied that no amount of money could make him compromise his dignity as a man. “He is not a thief,” the man recalled the dry cleaner saying.
What struck the man even more was that the laundryman then showed him several other pieces of clothing from which he had found money—ranging from as little as N200 to over N10,000—all of which he had also returned to their respective owners.
Moved by the dry cleaner’s honesty, the man revealed his plans to return the N1,000 to the cleaner as a gesture of gratitude and to maintain a long-term relationship with such a trustworthy individual.
He further praised the character of the dry cleaner, describing him as a decent and honourable Berom man. He used the opportunity to celebrate the moral standards of the people of Plateau State, saying, “Really good people do exist and Plateau State is full of such people.”
