Nollywood actress Deborah Ewedafe has shared a shocking experience of how she was scammed out of N6 million by fraudsters who deceived her with fake promises of securing a cinema release for her movie.

In an exclusive interview on Kunle Afod’s official YouTube channel, Deborah Ewedafe recounted how she was lured into investing heavily in a movie project after being advised that producing films for cinemas would be a lucrative way to recover her investment.

She explained that she was unaware of the complexities involved in the cinema distribution process and, due to her lack of knowledge, she fell victim to scammers who kept misleading her with fake documents and fraudulent promises.

According to Ewedafe, after completing the production of her film, she was eager to secure a theatrical release and approached certain individuals who claimed to be cinema distributors. Unfortunately, they continuously misled her with false assurances, fake processing documents, and fraudulent release dates, causing her to lose a total of N6 million.

In her words;

” was advised to venture into movie production for cinemas in Nigeria. However, while trying to do this, no one warned me that it was difficult and that there were certain procedures and processes to follow.”

“Out of ignorance I invested and after the production, I suffered a huge loss while trying to sell it to cinemas”.

“The movie is still not out. When we finished the entire production and took it to the cinema, I was scammed. They kept giving me fake assurances and even fake release dates. I spent about N6 million on fake processing and papers.”

“Eventually, when the date arrived and the movie was still not showing, it dawned on me that I had been duped,” she revealed.
