Notable musician, Davido has sparked a wave of reactions across social media following his bold claim of driving Hennessy out of the Nigerian market through his influence as a brand ambassador for Martell.
During a recent interview, Davido spoke on his successful partnership with Martell, a renowned French cognac company. The Afrobeat superstar revealed that since aligning with the brand, he has significantly contributed to its dominance in the Nigerian and African markets.

According to him, his efforts alone led to a staggering 22% increase in Martell’s GDP across Africa, a feat he emphasized was achieved without support from multiple celebrities. Davido claimed that the shift in consumer preference was so strong that Martell began to eclipse Hennessy in popularity, especially in Nigerian nightclubs and entertainment circles.
He said, “When Martell came, I grew Martell’s GDP in Africa over 22%. That’s one individual doing that. That’s not like 10 artists doing that. Basically, I chased Hennessy out of Nigeria. Go to the club, it’s hard to see a Hennessy bottle. It’s all Martell. I got called by the boss; he flew me out on the Martell Jet to Cognac in France and he sat me down and we structured the whole deal. They gave me my own bottle. I got a percentage in a bottle now. There’s influence.”
