Funeral arrangements have been officially announced for the late Evangelist Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni, mother of the late Sylvester Oromoni Jr., the Dowen College student whose tragic and controversial death in 2021 shocked the entire nation and sparked a nationwide outcry for justice.
Mrs. Oromoni passed away in November 2024, almost exactly three years after losing her beloved son. According to close family sources, she reportedly battled depression and high blood pressure, conditions that were severely worsened by the deep trauma of losing Sylvester and the prolonged emotional turmoil surrounding the legal battle for justice.

In November 2021, the tragic news of Sylvester’s passing gripped the nation, after his family alleged he was brutally attacked and forced to ingest a harmful substance by senior students at Dowen College in Lagos. His painful death led to mass protests, online campaigns, and widespread demands for accountability from the authorities and the school management.
Dowen College, however, denied the allegations, insisting that Sylvester sustained his injuries during a football game. The conflicting narratives fueled intense debates across the country and led to multiple investigations, including autopsies conducted both in Lagos and Delta State.
The case took a dramatic turn when a Lagos coroner ruled that Sylvester died of sepsis resulting from severe infections, effectively clearing the accused students of wrongdoing and leading to no criminal charges being filed. This ruling left the Oromoni family devastated and feeling betrayed by the justice system, prompting them to delay Sylvester’s burial for over two years as they pursued further legal and public advocacy actions.
Eventually, in January 2024, Sylvester Jr. was finally laid to rest in his hometown, Warri, amid tears and emotional tributes from family, friends, human rights activists, and concerned Nigerians who had followed the heartbreaking case closely.
Tragically, not long after finding some semblance of closure with her son's burial, Mrs. Oromoni’s health deteriorated further, leading to her untimely passing just a few months later. Her death marked another painful chapter for the already grieving Oromoni family.
According to the newly released funeral arrangements, Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni will be laid to rest on August 9, 2025, at the family compound in Warri, Delta State. The family has requested prayers and support from the public as they prepare to say their final goodbyes to a mother who fought passionately to seek justice for her son until her last breath.
Her funeral is expected to attract sympathizers from across Nigeria, including human rights advocates, community leaders, clergy, and Nollywood actors who supported the family's advocacy efforts over the years. Many see her life as a testament to a mother’s unwavering love, courage, and strength in the face of unimaginable pain.
