A fresh wave of controversy has hit social media following the arrest of controversial online critic, VeryDarkMan, by Nigerian security operatives. This incident comes shortly after he publicly called out Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) over what he described as unauthorized debits on his mother’s account, sparking widespread reactions online.
In a recent video posted to his Instagram page, VeryDarkMan had lamented the deduction of funds from his mother’s account without her consent, accusing GTBank of malpractice and demanding accountability. His vocal criticism drew massive attention from the public, many of whom shared similar complaints or supported his demand for transparency.
According to human rights activist and legal representative, Deji Adeyanju, the outspoken critic was arrested after he walked into a GTBank branch to address the issue directly. Adeyanju explained that police officers engaged VeryDarkMan in a brief conversation before taking him into custody. He strongly condemned the action, calling it an infringement on the right to free speech and a worrying misuse of security forces to silence dissent.
In a statement shared via Twitter, Adeyanju wrote: “VDM was arrested by the police at GTB today. He spoke to the officers before being taken into custody. This is absolutely unacceptable. Demanding accountability is not a crime.” The statement has fueled public outrage, with many accusing the bank of using its influence to suppress a legitimate complaint instead of addressing the issue transparently.
