Big Brother Naija reality star and actress, Bambam, has shared a deeply personal account of her traumatic childbirth experience, shedding light on the lesser-discussed struggles of postpartum recovery and maternal health complications.
Speaking in a recent episode of “Me and My Girls” on Fertitude, Bambam recounted the harrowing ordeal she endured during childbirth, emphasizing the importance of medical attentiveness, self-advocacy, and mental health support in such critical situations.
The actress revealed that she faced severe medical complications, including kidney failure, a weakened heart, and liver dysfunction. These conditions placed both her and her baby in critical danger.
The situation worsened when her daughter unexpectedly detached from the placenta, a life-threatening occurrence that put the newborn at high risk of oxygen deprivation.
Bambam expressed immense gratitude for the quick response of her medical team, who intervened just in time to prevent what could have been a devastating outcome. However, the traumatic experience left an emotional scar, leading her to seek therapy to process the ordeal.
Recalling the terrifying moments, she said:
“My kidney failed, my heart became weak, my liver—everything was just shutting down. She had detached from the placenta; if I was a second late, she would have lost oxygen, and I would have had a stillbirth. Every time I look at her, I just say ‘what if’. That word tormented me—what if the doctor wasn’t attentive? What if the nurse didn’t do her due diligence? It haunted me for a while. I had to get therapy to walk me through being grateful.”
Her testimony has sparked conversations online, with many women relating to the struggles of childbirth and postpartum trauma. Fans and well-wishers have since flooded social media with messages of support for Bambam, commending her for bravely sharing her experience.
