Popular Yoruba actress, Adewumi Fatai, has opened up about a painful and shocking experience she had during a visit to the United Kingdom to see her friend and colleague, actress Bukky Fagbuyi.
During a heartfelt interview shared on the official YouTube channel of Biola Adebayo Ent, Adewumi recounted how what was supposed to be a friendly and supportive visit turned into an emotional ordeal after she was falsely accused of theft.
She narrated that Bukky Fagbuyi, whom she considered a close friend, had warmly invited her to stay at her home in the UK. However, after she returned to Nigeria, Bukky allegedly accused her of stealing her gold jewelry, a claim that deeply hurt and embarrassed her.
According to Adewumi, the accusation didn’t only damage her reputation but also caused emotional trauma, especially because Bukky was someone she trusted. She revealed that she had always acted with integrity during her stay, even recounting a time she found Bukky’s child playing with some money and promptly returned it to her friend.
“It was Bukky Fagbuyi who asked me to come and stay with her in the UK. Bukky is a very nice person, but I didn’t know she was saying something bad behind my back,” she said emotionally during the interview.
“She spoilt my name to the extent that some people who knew us together told me everything she said about me. There was a day her child was playing with some money inside her room, I was the one who collected the money from her child and gave it to her when she came back, but she didn’t trust me when her gold jewellery was missing.”
Adewumi explained that after she had returned to Nigeria, she later heard from someone familiar with both parties that Bukky eventually found the missing jewelry in her own room. Despite this revelation, Adewumi said she never received an apology or any acknowledgment from Bukky about the discovery, leaving her hurt and disappointed.
“Bukky Fagbuyi disgraced me when she accused me of stealing her gold jewellery in the UK. Somebody who knew us together later told me that she later found the gold in her room, but I had already left for Nigeria at the time. Up till this moment, she’s yet to tell me that she later found the gold, and she’s yet to apologise to me,” she concluded.
The emotional confession has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many sympathizing with Adewumi and calling for more accountability in friendships, especially among public figures.
