Lead pastor of Celebration Church International, Pastor Emmanuel Iren, has recently opened up about the issue of sexual assault allegations within his ministry, shedding light on the dangers of false accusations and stressing the importance of fully understanding the concept of consent in relationships and interactions. Pastor Iren addressed these issues during a sermon, offering insight into his personal experience with sexual assault reports within his congregation.
In his remarks, Pastor Iren explained how he initially responded with anger to reports of sexual assault involving church members. However, after conducting a thorough investigation into the allegations, he discovered that the majority of these cases were, in fact, unfounded. He shared his frustration and surprise upon finding that 9 out of 10 cases turned out to be false. He recalled a specific incident where a woman claimed she had been assaulted, but after reviewing the evidence, he found that her messages suggested otherwise. "The first few cases, I was angry. I called the guy and swore I would jail him until he sent evidence. The girl who claimed she was assaulted said 'It was a nice time' in the chat," he revealed during the sermon.
Pastor Iren expressed deep concern over the misuse of such serious allegations, especially in the context of broken relationships. He emphasized that ending a relationship should never be used as a pretext for making false sexual assault claims. He made it clear that accusations should not be weaponized in situations where emotional conflicts or personal disappointments are at play. “Ending a relationship should not be a ground for sexual assault allegations,” he said firmly.
In addition to addressing the issue of false accusations, Pastor Iren took the opportunity to counsel young men within the church, encouraging them to pursue chastity and avoid situations that could lead to compromising behavior. He emphasized the need for personal integrity and self-control in all aspects of life, especially within relationships.
On the topic of consent, Pastor Iren provided an important message, particularly directed at men. He warned them about the critical importance of respecting consent in all situations. He advised that initial consent does not guarantee continuous consent, urging individuals to be attentive to verbal and non-verbal cues. “Initial consent isn’t total consent. Run for your life if consent is withdrawn 10 seconds after granting it. I don’t know who raised some men!” Pastor Iren expressed with concern, highlighting the need for better education around the principles of mutual respect and personal boundaries in relationships.
