Music icon 2Baba expresses heartbreak over Benue massacre
Legendary Nigerian artist Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has broken his silence following the horrific killings in Yelwata, Benue State.
In a heartfelt video shared on Sunday, June 15, 2025, the award-winning singer, visibly emotional, spoke alongside his wife and Benin lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, describing the tragic situation in Benue as a “national emergency.”
Having recently been appointed as Technical Adviser to the Benue State government, 2Baba urged authorities and citizens alike to go beyond mere condemnation and come together to find real and lasting solutions to the violence.
The singer was reacting to the June 13 attack on the Yelwata community in Guma LGA, allegedly carried out by armed herders, which left over 200 people dead, including many internally displaced persons.
He pleaded for unity, proactive governance, and immediate intervention at both state and national levels to end the bloodshed plaguing his home state.
The massacre also drew international condemnation, with Pope Leo XIV calling it “a horrifying slaughter” and urging global awareness of the crisis.
2Baba’s powerful message has struck a chord with many Nigerians, amplifying calls for urgent action to restore peace in Benue.
